Academics

Academics are named scholars who make your house's science stronger. They don't replace your scientists; each brings flat attributes, such as Prolific or Wise, that apply for as long as they stay. Every new house starts with 1 academic, free, with the attributes a new house's slots allow.

How many you can keep

One academic for every 100 universities you own, plus the 1 free one every house starts with (so it stays without universities). If you raze or lose universities and fall below that, your newest academics leave on the next tick, and your news says so.

Recruiting

  • An academic costs 5,000 books of one category, plus 50 paper for each attribute.
  • The books you have invested in sciences decide how many attributes a new academic can have: the first, second and third need 0, 50,000, 200,000 books invested.
  • Below 100,000 books invested, the attributes are drawn at random. From 100,000, you choose them.

Academics work like generals do for your army, but for your science.

Service record

Every academic keeps a record: ticks served, books your scientists wrote under its supervision, books you invested, and books given to your state's Colloquium while it served, and every trade in the Hall of Deeds.
